Injured in a Boating Accident?

Although boating is intended to be a fun and relaxing way to spend a day, it’s important for any person on a boat to exercise proper safety and caution while on the water. When boaters act negligently or recklessly, a day of fun on the water can quickly turn into a devastating event.

Boating accidents lead to thousands of serious injuries and deaths every year. The majority of these types of accidents are caused by third parties who act recklessly or fail to follow safety guidelines. When a person’s negligence or recklessness leads to a boating accident that results in serious injury or death, that person will be held legally liable for the accident.

Victims of boating accidents are legally entitled to seek compensation for the following:

  • pain and suffering
  • medical expenses
  • treatment costs
  • lost wages
  • property damage
  • decreased quality of life

Arizona Boating Laws

In Arizona, all motorized vehicles must be registered. Once registered, decals must be displayed prominently on the watercraft without fail. People who are under the age of 12 are not allowed to operate any type of watercraft that is powered by a motor. The only time they are allowed is while they are under the supervision of a person who is over the age of 18.

Operating watercraft while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is strictly prohibited. In fact, if people are caught boating under the influence, they can face criminal charges. All vessels must operate in accordance with posted speed limits.
