Wednesday, during construction on a Florida parking garage on the Miami
Dade College campus, part of the garage collapsed killing 3, and injuring
8 victims so far. At this time the firefighters and rescue team are still
trying to find the last person who is still missing, believed to be trapped
in the wreckage and likely dead by this point. The third man who was killed
from the accident was recovered from the rubble 13 hours after the incident,
and by that time he was already dead. The other two men that were killed
were removed quickly from the rubble though they died at the hospital.
Out of the 8 injuries, one man was sent home and the other 7 are at the
hospital though the extent of their injuries remains uncertain. At the
time of the accident, the construction workers were the only one on the
scene, so no college students or staff were injured from the collapse.
At this time in the search, many of the rescue people are saddened because
while they continue to look for the body, it is very unlikely that he
is still alive. According to reports they will continue the search until
nightfall, and continue on, acknowledging the fact that a search in this
type of accident could take days.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, though as with any places of
construction there are so many possibilities. Ajax Building Corp. is conducting
an internal investigation in order to discover the problem, along with
law enforcement who wants to get to the bottom of the accident. Losing
